Girls Bikes Sizes
Bikes for kids generally fall into age categories based on the average size of a child of a particular age. There are no set rules to say that you must buy a bike of a particular size for a child of a specific age, but we have included the size / age chart below from Evans bikes, the cycle specialists.
12" Wheel Girls Bikes - Suitable for ages 2 to 4 with a height of between 2' 10" and 3' 4" (85cm 100cm)
14" Wheel Girls Bikes - Suitable for ages 3 to 5 with a height of between 3' 1" and 3' 7" (95cm 110cm)
16" Wheel Girls Bikes - Suitable for ages 5 to 7 with a height of between 3' 7" and 4' 0" (110cm 120cm)
20" Wheel Girls Bikes - Suitable for ages 7 to 9 with a height of between 4' 0" and 4' 5" (120cm 135cm)
24" Wheel Girls Bikes - Suitable for ages 9 to 11 plus with a height of between 4' 5" and 4' 9" (135cm 145cm)
It is important to measure the child's height before purchasing a bike. But if for whatever reason you can't do this (maybe the bike will be a surprise gift) then use the child's age range as a guide.
Buying the Right size bike is important
Buying the right size means your child will be comfortable and not too stretched on the bike, and they can turn the handlebars safely, reach the brake levers and operate them, as well as touch the floor with their feet. Don't be tempted to buy a bike which the child will "grow into" and is too big for her. A bike that's too big will be uncomfortable and difficult to ride, and could mean the child loses interest in riding, or even be dangerous.
If your bike is too big or too small, it is more difficult to control, increasing the risk of accidents and injury to the rider and others.
